Quote One:
Today the United States stands out as the mightiest power on earth. And yet America is a threat to no one. All know that she will never use her power for selfish aims or territorial aggrandizement in the future any more than she has done in the past. We look upon her forces and our own forces and those of other nations as instruments that must never be employed save in the interests of world security and for the repression of the aggressor.
Quote Two:
We are bound together as never before.
This coming together provides us with unprecedented opportunity but also makes us uniquely vulnerable. The threat comes because, in another part of the globe, there is shadow and darkness where not all the world is free...
Quote Three:
The wicked men and their factions, who have launched their peoples on the path of war and conquest, know that they will be called to terrible account if they cannot beat down by force of arms the peoples they have assailed. They will stop at nothing.
Quote Four:
Distinguished Members of Congress, our two countries have a common heritage as well as a common language. It is no mere figure of speech to say that many of your most enduring traditions—representative government, habeas corpus, trial by jury, a system of constitutional checks and balances—stem from our own small islands. But they are as much your lawful inheritance as ours. You did not borrow these traditions—you took them with you, because they were already your own.
President Obama recently signed the $787 billion stimulus bill into law, which left a lot of Americans asking questions: will it work? How much money is too much to save our economy? Who will it really help? And lastly, why on earth did the president use so many pens to sign it??
This brings us to this week's Political Pop Quiz question:
How many pens did Obama use to sign the stimulus, and why?
Watch the video below to see what we're talking about, then scroll to the bottom for the answer!
**Answer: Mr. Obama said he used 10 different pens to sign the bill, essentially writing little more than one letter per pen. Pens used for major bills are keepsakes given to key aides and lawmakers involved in the process, and the high number of pens showed just how many people had a hand in delivering Mr. Obama's first major piece of legislation in his young administration
